The Brief

The aim was to provide a cost-effective leisure/lap pool inside a converted stable building. The emphasis was on a project, which would remain sympathetic to the style of the existing property yet offer high
specification and a contemporary look and feel. The basic function of the pool is for exercise and the space inside the building restricted the width of the pool. As the barn was extremely old, had no foundations and it had to be preserved, underpinning was necessary.

Polypool were appointed to implement the design, management and supply of the pool as well as all electrical/mechanical equipment for the project.

This was done in conjunction with the client, architect and a main contractor on site. In addition to supplying the design and the equipment for the project Polypool also assisted the main contractor with various specialist stages of the Polypool system installation. This included supplying technical know-how throughout as well as a comprehensive technical support package. The emphasis was on the main contractor
carrying out the bulk of the groundwork and finishes around the pool and building.

This program included supply of excavation drawings, full instruction manual, plant room design/calculations/drawings as well as round the clock technical support on the telephone. This constant communication between Polypool engineers and the main contractor comes as standard with every package and is an integral part of Polypool after care program. Polypool also carried out the installation of the pool shell, “Alkorplan” heavy duty liner system as well as the fitting out of the plant room.

The project requirements were the following:
• 17 metre long by 3m wide heated lap pool with 1.5m constant depth
• Discreetly colour-matched pool cover
• Underwater lighting
• Pool surround
• State of the art filtration, environmental control and
chemical dosing systems.
• Changing/shower facilities


Specification

In order to deliver the demands of the client’s brief we incorporated into the design a number of revolutionary products and systems as follows:
• 17m x 3m x 1.5m constant depth heat-retaining Polypool system
• Heavy duty Alkorplan on-site welded liner with mosaic pattern finish
• Beige/sand colour “aquamatic” hydraulic safety cover-To in-ground pit at one end of the pool
• 6 x 200Watt Halogen underwater lights
• Natural limestone pool surround
• Heatstar “Andromeda” environmental control unit complete with supply/return warm air ducting to powder coated grilles/ windows and external fresh air supply to assist with dehumidification.
• Domestic 4-hour turnaround on domestic pool filtration
• Eclear Technologies 100% chlorine free water treatment system.
